History

Purpose of the OCMA

Many of us work in isolation and we would welcome opportunities to meet with college faculty across the province. Our association is a grass roots organization which attempts to improve the mathematics teaching and learning environment at Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technologies (CAAT).

The aims of the association are:

  • to improve and facilitate communication among Ontario college mathematics faculty
  • to organize professional development events for Ontario college mathematics faculty
  • to inform the membership of new teaching methodologies and the current needs for mathematics in industry
  • to connect with Ontario college mathematics teachers at all levels

Purpose of the OCMA

Our association had its beginnings with Toronto colleges in May 1980. At that time it was known as the Metro Colleges Mathematics Association (MCMA). The need and popularity of the association has grown and in 1991 the association became the Ontario Colleges Mathematics Association (OCMA). In 1997 the OCMA became an affiliate of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges.
